Student Registration
Sarasota School of Arts and Sciences is funded by the state of Florida, tuition free, multicultural, public charter middle school, located in downtown Sarasota’s Rosemary District. As a charter school, we can accept students from all over Sarasota and surrounding counties. Transportation options can be found here.
We are currently accepting initial applications for grades 6-8 for the 2010-2011,2011-2012 and 2012-2013 school years only.
Space is limited.
You may forward your initial application to our Registrar, via email as a Word or pdf attachment, fax with cover sheet (330-1835), postal mail, or drop it off in person at our front desk between the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Confirmation of receipt is sent via email to the applicant. Visits with our Registrar must be made in advance and are by appointment only.
The initial application serves to note your family’s interest in enrolling with our school, and it is used as general student information and for contact purposes only. It does not conflict with other application processes such as County-Wide School Choice, other Magnet program applications, or private school registrations. We do not participate in County-Wide School Choice to apply to our school. A McKay Scholarship is not necessary, nor utilized at our school. State and local required registration paperwork is not needed at the time of the initial application submission. Further documentation will be requested at the appropriate times. Receipt of the initial application is not a guarantee of enrollment and is subject to the status of our enrollment at the date of receipt of said application, contingent upon review of the student’s specific resource needs (where required), and based upon schedule availability.
Enrollment is determined by the date the initial application is received, on a first come, first served basis. We do not give preference, nor priority to any student, regardless of ethnicity, creed, gender, talent, academic ability, location or familiarity with current or past enrollees, or staff. Any sibling (brother / sister) of a currently attending student will automatically be enrolled, regardless of when they apply.
A waiting list is created for applications received beyond enrollment capacity. Vacancies are filled with applicants from the waiting list, according to the date received order, are based upon schedule availability, and are contingent upon review of the student’s specific resource needs (where applicable and required). Contact is attempted with a waiting list applicant’s parent/guardian at the home phone number supplied, and a response to the offer of enrollment is required within 48 hours. It is the applicant’s responsibility to keep contact information up-to-date with us. We fill vacancies as they occur, including prior to, and after the start of the school year.
Enrollment awards and waiting list notifications are mailed to all applicants in the month of December preceding the requested year of enrollment. (Example: December 2010 for the 2011-2012 school year).
General public, informational tours are conducted by our Registrar and are by appointment only. Students must be in enrolled in 4th grade or above, to have a tour. Tours are limited to the student and parent/guardian(s) only. We currently do not offer an open house for the general public at this time. Student “shadowing” is not permitted.

If you are new to Sarasota County Public Schools, you will need the following county required paperwork, to enroll in any county public school. This would apply to anyone previously enrolled in home education programs, private schools, out-of-county, or out-of-state schools. Click here for the county required documents.
Any specific questions or concerns can be addressed via email or voicemail. Please feel free to contact our Registrar at kimbraun@ssas.org or 330-1855, ext 208.
We look forward to hearing from you!
