Moving Into Our New Building

We are ready to move into our new building.  A moving company will move all our furniture on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 10 and 11.  Parents and staff are not needed during this weekend as we would just be in their way.  We do need your help though.  If you can volunteer to help move the smaller items any time during the week before winter break starts, we would be so appreciative.  This includes Monday through Friday, December 12th through December 16th.  We will need help during the day and after hours.  Please e-mail me if you can volunteer to help any of these days.  Thank you for helping our dream come true.

marilynhighland@ssas.org

SSA+S to Take on the World!

A team of eighth grade girls will be representing our school AND the state of Florida at the INTERNATIONAL competition of Odyssey of the Mind to be held at the University of Maryland at the end of May. The girls have worked tirelessly this school year on multiple tasks required in this competition and have taken top honors at both the regional and state levels. The problem they compete in includes both engineering and arts problem solving skills. Without any help from adults, the girls have had to  work through various components of the problem to come up with unique solutions. One of these involves building an 18-gram balsa wood structure that is tested to determine how much weight it could hold. Beating out all other teams in their division, their structure held an amazing 642 pounds! Other aspects of the competition require writing and performing in an original play as well as building the set and creating their own costumes. Again, no adult help is permitted.

The team is seeking donors who will help the team get to the World competition. If you can help with a donation, we would be most appreciative. Checks can be made out to SSA+S-Odyssey. SSA+S has a 501 (3)(c) tax status.  Contact: Ms. Skedel - susanskedel@ssas.org or 941-330-1855 ext. 121
