Slide Layout

v      *      Selecting Slide Layout from the Format menu will let you change the layout of the slide. (i.e. 1 vs. 2 column)

v      *      This changes the format of the slide AFTER you have created it.

Presentation Design

v      *      Selecting Design button on the toolbar, or selecting Format à Slide Design, will let you change the template style. 

v      *      This changes the design of the presentation AFTER you have created it.

Moving in the presentation

v      *      PGUP/PGDN, up/down arrows and left/right arrows moves the slides backwards and forwards

v      *      CTRL-HOME and CTRL-END moves to the first/last slide

Speaker notes

v      *      Added in the Normal or Notes Pages view. (Notes Pages view allows you to change the font size.)

v      *      The gray bar between panes can be dragged up to give you more space for adding notes

v      *      Notes are printed by selecting Notes Pages in the Print What: box on the Print dialog window

Handouts

v      *      Printed by selecting Handouts in the Print What: box on the Print dialog window

v      *      Choose the number of slides per page - 3 slides per page adds lines for notes

Headers and Footers

v      *      Added by selecting View à Headers and Footers

v      *      Headers and Footers (i.e. page number, presentation title and/or your name) can be added to slides and/or handouts and notes

Slide Transition

v      *      Add transition in the Normal view by selecting Slide Show à Slide Transitions.  It can be added to one or all slides.

v      *      Add transition in the Slide Sorter view by selecting the Transitions button on the toolbar. 

v      *      Automatic slide transition can be set to advance slides for a photo display.

v      *      Transitions can be done via mouse click and/or by a time increment.

Inserting pictures

v      *      Choose the Title Text & Clip Art slide layout and double-click on the clip art side to add from the gallery (you won’t get access to online clip art using this method)

v      *      Choose Insert à Picture from Clip Art/File on any slide type

v      *      Resize the text box containing your bullet items if you need to. You can resize the image, too.

v      *      Inserting animated clip art does not require any special menu choice

Run a Slide Show

v      *      Chose the Slide Show button in the lower left corner  OR: select Slide Show à View Show

Pencil

v      *      Right-click during the show to get access to the pen and pen color  OR: CTRL-P to turn the pen on

v      *      Turn the pen off with ESC.  Erase the doodles by pressing just E.

End a Slide Show

v      *      Press ESC to end a slide show  OR:  right-click and choose End Show from the context menu

Rehearse Timing

v      *      Slide Show à Rehearse Timing allows you to set automatic timing for each individual slide.

v      *      Setting a fixed time for each slide can be done on the Transitions task pane.

Outline

v      *      Text can be added to the outline or the slide.  Slides can be rearranged in the Outline.

v      *      Turn on the Outline toolbar with View à Toolbars à Outlining

v      *      Collapse and expand the body text on slides with the plus/minus sign

v      *      Move the slide up/down in the presentation using the up/down arrows

v      *      Promote/demote bullet items with the left/right arrows

Text animation

v      *      Select Slide Show à Animation Schemes to get access to preset animation combinations.

v      *      OR:  Select Slide Show à Custom Animation and play with the options like re-ordering the bullet appearance.

v      *      You can apply animation/transition to any object on the slide, including images, using Custom Animation

v      *      The slide text will now appear letter by letter/word by word/bullet by bullet as you mouse click

Change the background to a color or photo

v      *      Select Format à Background and pull down on the pull-down menu below the slide color example. There won’t be any words there, just the color of the current background.

v      *      Choose a new color from those listed, or More Colors for another choice.

v      *      Fill Effects and Gradient allows you choose two-toned color, Fill Effects and Picture  allows you to point to a photo.

Slide Master

v      *      Use View à Master à Slide Master to see the title slide and body slide masters.  Changes made here will reflected on all slides. If the title slide master displays, click on the thumbnail along the left side to switch to the body slide master.

v      *      Icons can be added to each slide using the master.

v      *      Change the style of bullet on all slides via Format à Bullets and Numbering – use the Pictures or Symbols buttons for more choices

 

To choose a color scheme

1.       Open an existing PowerPoint presentation or create a new one. Remember, you can attach a color scheme to any presentation, so feel free to use whatever template you desire or start from scratch.

2.       On the Format menu, select Slide Color Scheme.

3.       On the Standard tab, select the desired color scheme and click Apply to All.

To change the background graphic in PowerPoint

1.       Navigate to the desired slide or create a new one.

2.       First you must omit the background graphic:

o        Select Background from the Format menu.

o        Select Omit background graphics from master.

o        Click Apply.

3.       Then, you add the new graphic to the slide:

o        From the Insert menu, select Picture > Clip Art or From File.

o        Navigate to the desired graphic. Click Insert.

To insert an animated GIF in a PowerPoint presentation

1.       Open the desired PowerPoint presentation and navigate to the slide to which you want to add the GIF.

2.       Select Insert > Picture > Clip Art.

3.      Select the Motion Clips tab.
