Credo

The Sarasota School of Arts & Science’s community is a unique grouping of people who individually and collectively strive to embody and epitomize the admirable characteristics described in the school’s Mission Statement. As members of this group, we hold ourselves to the highest ideals of integrity and honor.

We have strong moral values. We demonstrate respect for ourselves and others. We strive to treat others, as we want them to treat us. We demonstrate our care and concern for others through the practice of politeness and common courtesy even when we feel we are wronged. We understand the need for self-discipline and accept the corrections and guidance of those in authority.

We acknowledge that the property and rights of others are as important as our own, and demonstrate this understanding by respecting and caring for the things of others as if they were our own.

We are not mean or petty, and we do not destroy in any manner the reputation of others by innuendo or misrepresentation. We recognize our good fortune and strive to repay our obligations through service and good works to others, especially those less fortunate.

Our goal is to be socially and globally aware and environmentally concerned, we voluntarily assume our share, and more, of the responsibility for the maintenance of our world and its future.

We do not litter, damage, or despoil.

To the best of our abilities, we work toward our personal goals, through our interaction with others and within the framework of the family that makes up this special academic community.

And to the degree we fail to live up to the high standards we set for ourselves, we acknowledge the justness of the criticism and rebuke of others. We understand that this unique grouping of people is strengthened by our adherence to the principles set forth in this statement and is weakened when we deviate down paths not conducive to its goals.

We, therefore, daily commit ourselves to these standards of excellence as a way to improve our community, our nation, the world, and ourselves.
