A Message from Sarasota County Schools and the Department of Health

We wanted to make you aware of an upcoming change to the contact tracing process for students.

Effective Monday, January 24, all students will no longer be individually contact traced. The Department of Health (DOH) and Sarasota County Schools have implemented this process change based on updated guidance from the Florida Department of Health.

The school district and the DOH have agreed that moving forward, elementary schools will notify families of a potential COVID positive case related to their child on a class period-by-class period basis, based on the class schedule of the COVID positive case. Due to the sheer amount of student movement on secondary school campuses, middle and high schools will not be notifying families of COVID positive cases on a class period-by-class period basis. Instead, middle and high schools will notify all of their families on a daily basis about the current # of cases connected to their child’s school.

Please keep in mind that the DOH is offering PCR testing for symptomatic staff or students for all public, private, and charter schools in Sarasota County. This testing is available by appointment only. A Message from SSA+S

SSA+S will continue to track all positive cases shared with us from families and will update the dashboard daily with positive case numbers on our website and weekly in the team news. Covid-19 (ssas.org)

Due to new guidelines from the state, parents may choose whether or not their child is quarantined, if they are asymptomatic. You may see all Covid-19 information on our website, including the new tracing guidelines. Covid-19 (ssas.org)

• If asymptomatic, they may remain at school.
• If you want to get them tested, it is recommended to wait 5 days from date of exposure. Your child can test at DOH, RL Taylor, the Manatee Convention Center, or the Kennel Club for free.
• 5 days or longer quarantined at home, if your child tests as positive, followed by 5 days of wearing a mask, if they return to school, as recommended by the CDC.  Students may return after five days when positive, if they are asymptomatic for over 24 hours without medicine.  If your child is positive for Covid, please contact Tara Tahmosh, Kylie Gannon, or Daniela Arcadia as soon as possible.  This excuses the absences. If your child is ill, please ask us to contact the teachers and exempt some work. The more information that we have, the more we can assist you. 

Students’ typical symptoms include: fever, cough, and a sore throat. Any students with symptoms will be sent home from the clinic – to avoid this, keep sick students at home.  You may contact us and ask us to excuse their work.

Teachers will post their entire agenda and assignments, with corresponding PowerPoints or files, on TEAMS. Use https://www.office.com to have your child log in; they cannot log in from the district website.  The district has a different Office 365 account that does not include charter schools.

Un Mensaje de las Escuelas del Condado de Sarasota y el Departamento de Salud

Queremos informarle sobre un cambio en el proceso de rastreo de contacto para estudiantes.

A partir del lunes 24 de Enero, los estudiantes ya no serán rastreados individualmente. El Departamento de Salud (DOH) y las Escuelas del Condado de Sarasota han implementado este cambio de proceso basado en la orientación actualizada del Departamento de Salud de Florida.

El distrito escolar y el DOH acordaron que, en el futuro, las escuelas primarias notificarán a las familias sobre un posible caso positivo de COVID relacionado con su hijo de clase a clase, según el horario de clases del caso positivo de COVID. Debido a la gran cantidad de movimiento de estudiantes en los campus de las escuelas secundarias, las escuelas intermedias y secundarias no notificarán a las familias sobre los casos positivos de COVID período de clase por período de clase. En cambio, las escuelas intermedias y secundarias notificarán a todas sus familias diariamente sobre el número actual de casos relacionados con la escuela de sus hijos.
